Discovering San Michele

San Michele BZ, a hamlet of Appiano on the South Tyrolean Wine Road, is one of the most charming destinations in South Tyrol.

Located in the heart of the Oltradige region, San Michele is the vibrant center of Appiano, nestled along the renowned South Tyrolean Wine Road.

The village is famous for the San Michele Appiano Wine Cooperative, founded in 1907, now comprising over 320 winegrowers and 390 hectares of vineyards. Here, excellent wines such as Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Noir are produced through sustainable and innovative viticulture. Guided tours of the barrique cellars and historic barrels are a must for wine lovers.

San Michele is also a lively cultural hub: the Lanserhaus Residence hosts an art gallery and an archaeological exhibition, while the Public Library and shops like Ars Florensis offer creative and artisanal experiences. The village’s churches, including St. Anne, St. Mary of the Visitation, and St. Joseph, reflect its rich spiritual and historical heritage.

In summer, the Evenings Under the Stars enliven the streets, while in winter, the Appiano Advent Christmas Market transforms San Michele into a magical village.

Nature lovers can explore the Edith Stein Trail to Masaccio Castle, cycle to the Monticolo Lakes, or discover the Colle dell’Uomo.
