Discovering Cavalese
Cavalese, in the heart of the Val di Fiemme, is the historical, administrative and cultural centre of the valley. Once seat of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, it’s a charming town where alpine traditions blend with all-season tourism.
In winter, Cavalese offers the perfect base for skiing. The nearby Alpe Cermis ski area provides panoramic slopes ideal for both beginners and experts. Families will enjoy Cermislandia, a playground dedicated to mountain creatures. Cross-country skiers can explore scenic trails in Lavazè Pass and along the Marcialonga route, which ends in Cavalese. Snowshoe hikes, ice skating, and winter walks complete the offer.
In summer, the town becomes a paradise for outdoor lovers. Stroll through the historic centre, relax in the Parco della Pieve, or take hikes and bike rides to admire the mountains. Sports enthusiasts enjoy the Fiemme Vitaly Park, pools, fitness centres, and horseback riding. The Marcialonga Running and Marcialonga Cycling take place in this season.
Located on a sunny natural terrace, Cavalese has ancient roots dating back to the Bronze Age. From the 12th century, it grew under the rule of the Prince-Bishops of Trento, and the Magnifica Comunità was established. Its legacy lives on in the Palazzo dei Vescovi, now home to the community museum and art gallery. Events like the Desmontegada and the Witches’ Trial keep local traditions alive.
