Discovering Calalzo di Cadore
Overlooking Lake Centro Cadore, Calalzo di Cadore blends stunning Dolomite landscapes with convenient tourist services. The town features a railway station, fast connections to the A27 motorway, and direct access to the Dolomite Cycle Path leading to Cortina d’Ampezzo. Sitting at 806 meters above sea level, it’s a strategic starting point nestled between the Marmarole range and Mount Antelao.
Val d’Oten offers scenic hiking trails to Capanna degli Alpini, Rifugio Chiggiato, and Rifugio Galassi. Along the stream, the Pile Waterfall plunges nearly 25 meters—an idyllic destination for trekking and nature photography. Surrounded by forests and majestic Dolomite cliffs, the views are simply breathtaking.
Just a short walk from the center, the Lagole natural and archaeological area captivates visitors with cold sulfur springs and serene woodland ponds. The sulfate-rich waters, known for their regenerating properties, cascade into Lake de le Tose. Excavations have revealed Paleovenetian and Roman remains, now housed in the Museo Archeologico Cadorino.
Calalzo di Cadore also boasts a historic tradition in artisan eyewear production, which dates back to the late 1800s and remains part of the local identity. Its cultural heritage is revealed in the Parish Church of San Biagio and the rustic villages of Grea and Rizzios.
