Discovering Forcella dell'Omo
In the heart of the Belluno Dolomites National Park, Forcella dell’Omo is a little-known yet highly captivating hiking destination, immersed in a wild and karstic landscape. Located within the Cimónega group, at an altitude of around 2000 meters, it connects the area of the Piani Eterni with Casera Cimónega, offering a privileged panoramic viewpoint over the Pale di San Martino, Passo Cereda, and the valleys of Gosaldo.
The most frequented route begins at Malga Erera and follows the CAI trail 851, winding through high-altitude meadows, rhododendron bushes, karstic sinkholes, and grassy basins. Trail markings consist of wooden posts, clearly visible in good lighting conditions but requiring caution in foggy weather. The path is easy and free of exposure, suitable for moderately experienced hikers and ideal for those seeking a slow and sustainable tourism experience.
Along the way, hikers encounter natural features of great interest, such as an emergency cave that offers shelter in case of bad weather, and the grassy basin known as “i Laghetti,” which provides evocative views and a rarefied atmosphere. Forcella dell’Omo also serves as a junction for more demanding routes, such as the connection to Casera Cimónega and Rifugio Boz, recommended only for expert hikers.
This mountain pass is a perfect destination for those wishing to explore the Feltrine Dolomites in an authentic way, far from the most travelled paths.
