Discovering Fondo
Fondo is the main town of the Alta Val di Non, a charming village in Trentino surrounded by spectacular canyons, alpine lakes, and scenic trails, perfect for those seeking nature, culture, and adventure.
Located at around 1,000 meters above sea level, Fondo is crossed by the famous Canyon Rio Sass, a gorge up to 50 meters deep that can be explored via suspended walkways and staircases among stalactites, waterfalls, and rock formations carved by water. Just steps from the center lies the enchanting Lago Smeraldo, ideal for relaxing walks, picnics, and outdoor activities.
The village boasts a picturesque historic center with frescoed houses, stone fountains, and churches like the Parish Church of San Martino and San Rocco, showcasing local sacred art. Nearby hiking and cycling routes lead to destinations such as Monte Macaion, Monte Luco, and Lago di Tret, all set within the Dolomite landscape.
Fondo is also a gateway to the Adamello Brenta Nature Park and offers cultural experiences tied to the farming traditions of the Val di Non, including festivals, markets, and tastings. Don’t miss the region’s specialties: PDO apples, alpine cheeses, canederli, and apple strudel.
