Discovering Weite Scharte

Weite Scharte is a spectacular alpine saddle located in the municipality of Ahrntal (Aurina Valley), in the province of Bolzano, at nearly 3,000 meters above sea level. Nestled in the heart of the Zillertal Alps, on the border between Italy and Austria, it is a sought-after destination for experienced hikers and mountaineers in search of pristine landscapes and absolute tranquility.

At an elevation of 2,983 m, Weite Scharte connects the peaks of Wollbachspitze and Hintere Stangenspitze, offering breathtaking views of glaciers, rugged ridges, and alpine valleys. The surrounding area is rich in natural and cultural attractions. The nearby villages of Steinhaus (Cadipietra) and St. Johann (San Giovanni) in Ahrntal offer warm South Tyrolean hospitality, Ladin traditions, and local cuisine. Just a few kilometers away lies the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, featuring scenic hiking routes, alpine huts, and outdoor activities throughout the year.

Weite Scharte is the ideal choice for those seeking an authentic experience in the Dolomites, far from the usual tourist routes. Perfect for hiking, nature photography, and wilderness exploration, it is a hidden gem of South Tyrol to be discovered with respect and awe.
