Discovering Lago di Santa Colomba

Located at 926 meters above sea level on the Argentario plateau, Lake Santa Colomba is one of the most enchanting destinations in the Cembra Valley, ideal for those seeking peace, scenic hikes, and a journey into Trentino’s mining heritage. Surrounded by pine forests and reed beds, the lake spans about 2 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of 8 meters.

This body of water is recognized as a Special Area of Conservation due to its extraordinary biodiversity. Mallards, coots, and moorhens nest here, and in spring, six different amphibian species arrive to reproduce. Sport fishing is popular thanks to the presence of trout, pike, tench, carp, and rudd.

The lake is part of the Argentario Ecomuseum, which promotes the geological and mining heritage of the area. From here begins the evocative Canope Trail, a 3-km themed route that passes through ancient medieval silver mines. Along the way, interpretive panels tell the story of the “canòpi” miners and the region’s geological features.

Perfect for hikers, nature photographers, and families, Lake Santa Colomba also offers picnic areas and scenic viewpoints such as Dos dei Brusadi, where you can admire the full beauty of the Cembra Valley.
