Discovering Forcella Franche

Forcella Franche, located between the municipalities of Rivamonte Agordino and Gosaldo, is a mountain pass that connects the Mis Valley to the Agordo Basin, nestled within the Belluno Dolomites, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Easily accessible via Provincial Road 3, it serves as a strategic gateway for hiking, outdoor breaks, and cultural activities.

The area features a well-equipped picnic zone, surrounded by forests and Dolomite peaks such as the Monti del Sole and the Pale di San Martino. It’s an ideal spot for a relaxing stop or as a base for excursions along CAI trails leading to destinations like Monte Pizzon, Bus de le Neole, Val Paganin, and the fascinating Valle Imperina Mining Center.

From a cultural perspective, Forcella Franche preserves historical traces such as the ancient Calchera, a lime kiln used in traditional production, and the Umberto Bedont Visitor Center, which offers educational insights into the area's biodiversity and geology. Guided hikes reveal local legends, including that of the Om Salvarech, a mythical woodland figure said to inhabit the surrounding forests.

Forcella Franche is an ideal destination for those seeking sustainable tourism, unspoiled nature, and authentic experiences in the Belluno Dolomites. Open year-round and easily accessible, it offers breathtaking landscapes, peaceful surroundings, and a rich cultural heritage—perfect for hikers, families, and mountain lovers.
