Discovering Cibiana di Cadore

Nestled in the heart of the Belluno Dolomites, Cibiana di Cadore is a small village of around 450 inhabitants, located at 985 meters above sea level along the road between Venas and Passo Cibiana.

Cibiana is known as the Village of Murals: since 1980, over 60 frescoes created by Italian and international artists have adorned the façades of local homes, depicting traditional crafts, legends, and scenes from alpine life. It’s a true open-air museum that turns every walk into a journey through the cultural memory of the Cadore region.

Among its natural attractions, Monte Rite (2187 m) stands out, accessible from Passo Cibiana by foot or summer shuttle. At the summit lies the renowned Museum in the Clouds, conceived by Reinhold Messner, dedicated to Dolomite mountaineering. The view from the top spans the Boite Valley, Cortina d’Ampezzo, and surrounding peaks such as Pelmo, Antelao, and Sassolungo.

In winter, Cibiana offers a scenic cross-country ski trail with loops of varying lengths and a 2 km illuminated track for evening outings. Not to be missed are hikes to the ancient mines of Vallinferna, Ronzei, and Ciarsies, remnants of the area’s mining history.

Once renowned for its handcrafted forged keys, Cibiana still proudly preserves this artisanal tradition.
