Discovering Proves - Proveis
Located at 1,420 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Deutschnonsberg, on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino, the village of Proves – Proveis is one of the most authentic and secluded destinations in the Upper Non Valley.
For centuries accessible only from Trentino, the village is now connected to the Ultental Valley via the Castrin Pass Tunnel (Hofmahdjoch). This isolation has preserved its cultural identity, with German as the spoken language and a lifestyle rooted in rural rhythms. The village is centered around the Parish Church of Saint Nicholas, with its slender bell tower and simple interiors, serving as a spiritual and architectural landmark.
Proves is surrounded by a network of hiking trails that traverse the Ultental Alps, the Maddalene Range, and the nearby Ortler-Cevedale Group. Highlights include the Bonacossa Trail, the Ultner Höhenweg, the Alpine Pasture Trail, and the Erlebnisweg zur Unteren Kesselalm, which is also suitable for families. In winter, snowshoe hikes and scenic walks lead to panoramic viewpoints where, on clear days, you can even glimpse Lake Garda.
The small Provi Snowpark, near the village center, offers fun on the snow for children and beginners, with sledding, snow tubing, and Zipfelbob rides. Local alpine huts such as Malga Revò, Malga Cloz, and Malga Kessel are perfect stops to enjoy traditional South Tyrolean cuisine and homemade desserts.
