Discovering Mölten
Located at 1,140 meters above sea level on the scenic Tschögglberg ridge, between Bolzano and Merano, Meltina (Mölten in German) is a South Tyrolean village that enchants with its authenticity, open landscapes and rich alpine traditions. Surrounded by larch forests and sunny pastures, Meltina is the ideal starting point for panoramic hikes, cultural experiences and moments of pure relaxation in nature.
Among the most fascinating natural attractions are the mysterious Stone Men—hundreds of stacked rock cairns of uncertain origin—scattered across the Salten plateau, creating a mystical atmosphere. Another geological wonder is the Earth Pyramids, clay columns topped with boulders, shaped by erosion and visible along the Rio Meltina stream. In spring, the Giogo di Meltina becomes a carpet of blooming crocuses, while in autumn the alpine hut Möltner Kaser offers local delicacies and breathtaking views.
Culturally, Meltina is home to the Fossil Museum, which tells the geological story of the region, and the Arunda sparkling wine cellar, the highest sparkling wine producer in Europe, where tradition meets innovation. The area is also known for its Haflinger horses, bred for generations in local farms.
Easily accessible from Bolzano via the Vilpiano cable car or the panoramic road from Terlano, Meltina is a perfect destination for those seeking hiking, culture and alpine wellness in an authentic and uncrowded setting.
