Discovering Fontana Nuova-Bevia

Fontana Nuova–Bevia is a small locality nestled in the Val di Bresimo, at the northwestern edge of the Val di Non, in Trentino–South Tyrol. Surrounded by spruce forests, larch woods, and alpine meadows, and crossed by the Barnes stream, it offers a wild and rejuvenating landscape—ideal for those seeking nature holidays, mountain hikes, and slow tourism.

One of the area’s highlights is the Altaguardia Castle, among the highest fortresses in Trentino, built in the 13th century and now open to visitors after careful restoration. From its vantage point, you can admire the entire valley and breathe in medieval history. Nearby lies Maso Castelbasso, now an environmental visitor center offering educational activities focused on local ecology and traditions.

Fontana Nuova–Bevia is also a gateway to the Percorsi d’Anaunia, a network of over 140 km of trails that weave through nature, art, archaeological sites, suspended bridges, and alpine sanctuaries, including the Sanctuary of Madonna di Bresimo, a national monument featuring 16th-century frescoes and fine wooden altars.

This is a perfect destination for discovering an authentic side of Trentino, far from the usual tourist routes, where alpine culture, Dolomite landscapes, and local hospitality come together in a deeply restorative experience.
