Discovering Salorno
Salorno, the southernmost municipality in South Tyrol, lies in a unique and fascinating position at the narrow gorge of the Chiusa di Salorno, where the valley narrows and the landscape takes on an almost fairytale-like character. Here also lies the linguistic border between the Italian-speaking and German-speaking areas, making Salorno a true cultural crossroads. It also marks the final point of the famous South Tyrolean Wine Road, loved by wine tourists and travelers exploring local excellence.
The village has ancient origins dating back to the Bronze Age, but it was during the Renaissance and Baroque periods that Salorno flourished architecturally. Elegant noble residences, inner courtyards, and decorated facades still enrich the historic center. Walking through the old town feels like stepping into the past, among aristocratic houses and cobbled streets full of history.
One of the village's symbols is the Castel Salorno (Haderburg), perched on a rocky cliff overlooking the valley. It can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes via the scenic Path of Visions, and offers breathtaking views along the way.
Much of the municipal territory is part of the Monte Corno Nature Park, one of the richest protected areas in South Tyrol in terms of biodiversity. Forests, alpine meadows, and rare plant and animal species make it a paradise for hikers, botanists, and birdwatchers. Another area of great environmental value is the Paludèl biotope, a wetland perfect for peaceful walks in nature.
Don’t miss the Rio Tigia Waterfall, surrounded by greenery, and the parish church of Saint Andrew, with a bell tower dating back to the 13th century. Lastly, the Sculpture Garden, featuring over 200 artworks created in harmony with the landscape, is a must-see for lovers of open-air art.
Salorno is the ideal place to slow down, immerse yourself in nature, and experience the authentic beauty of South Tyrol.
