Discovering Gosaldo

Nestled in the Belluno Dolomites Natural Park, on the border with the province of Trento, Gosaldo is a small town that captivates visitors with its natural beauty, tranquility, and hospitality. The hamlets of Gosaldo are surrounded by majestic mountains that attract climbers and hiking enthusiasts: Croda Granda, Sasso d’Ortiga, Monte Agner, and Piz di Sagron offer spectacular views and trails for all levels.

For those who enjoy easy walks, the path from Forcella Franche to the Valle Imperina mining center offers a pleasant family-friendly excursion. This historic route, recently restored, was once used by locals to reach the silver and copper mines, active from the 1400s until 1962, now preserved as a testament to the area’s mining heritage.

Gosaldo is also a land of traditions: from the 18th century until the mid-1900s, the town was famous for its chairmakers. Each year, men and children traveled to practice this ancient craft in Italy and abroad. A monument in the main square of Don, the town’s capital, is dedicated to them, as well as the Ethnographic Chairmaker Museum, which preserves original tools, photos, and testimonies of daily life and local craftsmanship, from wood and ironwork to dairy production.

Do not miss the ancient churches: the church of Don, dating back to 1500, with valuable frescoes and artworks; the church of Tisèr from the 1600s; and the charming Madonna della Neve chapel at Forcella Aurine.
