Discovering Gamsschartl

Gamsschartl is a high mountain pass nestled in the Sesto Dolomites of South Tyrol, within the Tre Cime Nature Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Though less known than other Dolomite destinations, this location offers an exclusive experience for seasoned hikers and lovers of unspoiled alpine landscapes. Positioned between Croda Rossa and Monte Elmo, the pass boasts breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and the Fiscalina Valley.

Gamsschartl can be reached via medium and high-difficulty hiking trails, including sections of via ferrata and scenic routes that wind through silent, untouched terrain. The area showcases exceptional biodiversity: in summer, alpine meadows burst into color with rare flowers such as edelweiss, dwarf rhododendron, and potentilla persicina, while the wildlife includes chamois, marmots, golden eagles, and alpine owls.

Located within the Tre Cime Nature Park, the region is part of the European ecological network Natura 2000, protecting habitats and endangered species. Its rocky terrain and elevation encourage the growth of pioneer plants and woodlands of larch and Swiss pine, creating a unique alpine ecosystem. Gamsschartl is also a strategic point connecting historic mountain huts and thematic hiking routes, such as the Carnic High Route and the Sesto Sundial Trail.

Access is available via cable cars from Sesto or Moso, linking to major trails in the area.
