Discovering Cles

Cles, the capital of the Val di Non, is a town in Trentino rich in history, nature, and culture, perfect for a holiday in the Dolomites.

Located on the western shore of Lake Santa Giustina, Cles offers a unique blend of alpine landscapes and artistic heritage. Its historic center features the majestic Palazzo Assessorile, dating back to the 12th century, with Renaissance frescoes by Marcello Fogolino and a legacy tied to the Clesio family, including the renowned Bernardo Clesio. Today, it hosts exhibitions, cultural events, and conferences.

Just steps away is the Dos di Pez, a panoramic terrace offering stunning views of the lake and the impressive Castel Cles, nestled among apple orchards. Documented since the 12th century, the castle is a private residence not open to visitors, but its grandeur and 16th-century decorations can be admired from the outside.

One of the most popular hikes is the loop trail through the Noce stream gorge, leading to the mystical Hermitage of Santa Giustina, a 13th-century site accessible via a wooden bridge and scenic paths. The Santa Giustina Dam, standing 152 meters tall, created one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe, ideal for walks and lakeside relaxation.

Nearby, don’t miss the fairytale-like Castel Valer in Tassullo, open to visitors by reservation, and the famous Lake Tovel, known for its natural red-water phenomenon and breathtaking scenery.
