Discovering Lago d'Asbelz

Hidden among the wild peaks of the southern Brenta Dolomites, Lake Asbelz is a hiking destination of rare beauty, located at over 2,000 meters above sea level in the remote Val di Jon, above San Lorenzo Dorsino, in Trentino. This small alpine lake, nestled between high-altitude pastures and steep limestone walls, can only be reached on foot via SAT trail 349, which begins at the Ristoro Dolomiti and passes through the scenic Malga Asbelz. The setting is solitary and untouched, ideal for experienced hikers seeking silence, breathtaking views, and full immersion in nature.

The lake lies within the Adamello Brenta Nature Park and is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Alpi Ledrensi and Judicaria, recognized for its environmental and cultural value. The hike crosses areas rich in biodiversity, with chances to spot golden eagles, chamois, and occasionally the brown bear. In spring and autumn, the landscape bursts with vivid colors, making it perfect for landscape photography and nature walks.

Lake Asbelz offers one of the most authentic experiences in Trentino, far from mainstream tourist routes, where the mountains reveal their purest form. It’s an ideal spot for those who love high-altitude trekking, Dolomitic geology, and slow, sustainable tourism.
