Discovering Terres
Terres, today a hamlet of the municipality of Contà in the Val di Non, lies at 593 m on a sunny terrace between Tuenno and Flavon, surrounded by orchards and woods. It is renowned for the cultivation of Golden Delicious, Renetta, and Red Stark apples, which have made the valley one of Europe’s capitals of apple growing.
The historic and artistic heart of the village is the Church of Saints Philip and James (rebuilt in 1828), which dominates the settlement, and the evocative Church of San Giorgio (11th century), in Romanesque style, probably built on the site of an ancient pagan altar. Restored in the 16th century, it preserves precious frescoes by the Baschenis school, among the most important artistic testimonies of the valley.
Terres is also an ideal starting point for nature excursions: from the Terres Tunnel one can access trails leading towards the Tovel valley, such as the Ancient Sawmills Trail, the Glare Trail, and the loop around Lake Tovel, within the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. These itineraries, suitable for hiking or biking, offer spectacular views over the apple orchards and the Val di Non.
Throughout the year, the village comes alive with events linked to local products and farming traditions, such as the patronal feast of Saints Philip and James in May. Between nature, culture, and authentic flavors, Terres is a perfect destination for those seeking a slow holiday in Trentino and a privileged base for exploring the Val di Non and its landscapes.
