Discovering Schientaljoch
Schientaljoch is a high mountain pass located at around 2,600 meters above sea level in the heart of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, between Riva di Tures and the remote Schiental on the Austrian side. Surrounded by wild and majestic landscapes, it’s an ideal destination for experienced hikers and lovers of authentic alpine adventures, far from mainstream tourist routes.
The pass is reached via high-altitude trails that cross glacial terrain, rocky ridges, and alpine meadows, offering spectacular views of the Rieserferner Group peaks, such as Großer Moosstock, Monte Nevoso, and Magerstein, all rising above 3,000 meters. The area is perfect for cross-border trekking, multi-day hikes, and nature photography, thanks to its strategic position along the Rieserferner hiking circuit.
In winter, Schientaljoch is ideal for ski touring and snowshoeing in quiet, snow-covered settings, while in summer it becomes a key point for routes connecting mountain huts and valleys between Italy and Austria. The region also preserves traces of ancient pastoral paths, offering a deep connection with alpine heritage.
