Discovering Forcella Starezza
Located at 2,047 meters above sea level in the rugged heart of the Central Cadore Dolomites, Forcella Starezza is a perfect destination for those seeking authentic experiences surrounded by pristine nature and historical echoes. Accessible via the CAI 330 trail from Fontanelle or Laggio di Cadore, the pass unfolds between the majestic peaks of the Brentoni Group, offering breathtaking views of Centro Cadore, Monte Antelao, the Marmarole, and Cridola.
The route leading to Forcella Starezza follows a military dirt road dating back to World War I, a historical witness to an alpine past shaped by fortifications and shelters. On these very ruins stands the G. Spagnolli bivouac, built in 1985 by CAI volunteers from Vigo di Cadore: a spartan yet welcoming shelter with unforgettable views.
The area is ideal for seasoned hikers, with loop trails that reach peaks such as Monte Schiavon and Crissin di Laggio, winding through scree slopes, high alpine meadows, and rocky gullies. Its austere, silent atmosphere makes it a haven for nature photography, panoramic trekking, and slow tourism.
