Discovering Pieve di Ledro
In the heart of the Ledro Valley, in Trentino, lies Pieve di Ledro, an authentic alpine village nestled on the shores of the crystal-clear Lake Ledro. Located at 660 meters above sea level and surrounded by the Ledro Alps, it’s an ideal destination for relaxation, outdoor sports, and cultural discovery. During summer, the equipped beaches invite visitors to swim, sail, windsurf, kayak, or enjoy a pedal boat ride. Scenic trails like the Pur Path lead hikers and mountain bikers to Molina di Ledro and nearby alpine pastures.
The village preserves its historical and rural soul: highlights include the Church of the Annunciation (1235), the Old Town Hall with the Oratory of San Giuseppe, and a 17th-century white stone portal. A must-see is the Foletto Pharmacy Museum, which tells the story of the valley’s first pharmacy and still produces cosmetics, syrups, and the famous “Picco Rosso” liqueur.
Pieve di Ledro is also tied to Italy’s Risorgimento history: in July 1866, it was the site of a clash between Italian volunteers and Austrian troops, a prelude to the Battle of Bezzecca led by Garibaldi. Today, the village is the beating heart of the valley, perfect for lovers of slow travel, unspoiled nature, and local traditions.
