Discovering Passo Valbona

The Passo di Valbona is a stunning mountain pass located at 2,130 metres above sea level, along the spectacular Col Nudo and Cavallo ridge in the Friulian Dolomites. This strategic crossing represents an important natural link between the Val Chialedina in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the picturesque Venál di Montanès in Veneto.

The pass offers breathtaking views of the imposing rock faces of Col Nudo, one of the most majestic peaks in the Carnic Prealps. Experienced hikers can continue from the pass along the ridge connecting Cima Lastei to Col Nudo, although this route includes some technical difficulties requiring preparation and mountaineering experience.

The territory crossed by the CAI trails leading to Passo di Valbona is characterized by an extraordinary variety of natural environments, from lush beech and fir forests in the montane belt to high-altitude alpine pastures. The alpine flora offers unique seasonal displays, with blooming flowers coloring the meadows during summer.

Near the pass, the Ricovero Col Nudo serves as an essential shelter for hikers and climbers. This cozy refuge offers a place to rest, take shelter from bad weather, and enjoy mountain hospitality, providing an ideal base to explore the surrounding peaks or to break the hike into multiple stages.
