Discovering Laghetto di Lares
The Laghetto di Lares is one of the most striking alpine landscapes of the Val Genova, formed by the recent retreat of the Vedretta di Lares. This small glacial lake, framed by the majestic environment of the Adamello–Carè Alto, offers wild scenery and high-altitude photography opportunities, perfect for experienced hikers seeking challenging treks and unspoiled nature.
The classic access starts from Malga Genova along the SAT 214 trail: the ascent is steep and steady, running alongside the powerful Lares Waterfalls and reaching the lake area after a significant elevation gain, with final sections on rocky debris where orientation and caution are required. In summer, shuttle buses serve the Val Genova; the route demands good fitness and hiking experience.
The lake lies at around 2,650–2,661 m and feeds the waterfalls that plunge along the Rio Lares. The environment tells the story of recent glacial evolution and can be linked to historic traverses from the area of the Rifugio Carè Alto via the Sella di Niscli, among solitary panoramas and memories of the White War.
