Discovering Calavino

Calavino (known as Calavin in the Trentino dialect) is a charming hamlet of the municipality of Madruzzo, located in the Autonomous Province of Trento, in the heart of the Valle dei Laghi. Nestled among gentle hills, vineyards, and woods, this delightful Trentino village preserves the charm of its rural and medieval origins, offering visitors an authentic and relaxing atmosphere.

The historic center of Calavino weaves a maze of cobbled alleys, rustic courtyards, and ancient stone houses that narrate the village’s story. A highlight is the majestic Calavino Castle, an historic noble residence overlooking the village. Equally splendid is the parish church of San Biagio, built on Romanesque foundations and enriched with frescoes and sacred decorations.

For hiking lovers, the area offers many options. Particularly captivating is the archaeological walk of Cavedine, following the ancient Roman Road, once a north–south communication route running along the western ridge of the Valle di Cavedine. Along the route, you can admire historical remains such as fountains, inscriptions, tombstones, capitals, and well-preserved paved sections.

From Castel Madruzzo, the Calavino–Lagolo trail begins, perfect for exploring the surroundings on foot immersed in nature. This path leads to the Lagolo area, famed for its alpine lake surrounded by ancient beech trees—a perfect spot to relax, picnic, or simply enjoy the peaceful and picturesque scenery.

Throughout the year, traditional events, festivities, and folk fairs celebrate Trentino traditions and local identity. Visiting Calavino means discovering an authentic corner of Trentino, where history, nature, and culture intertwine to deliver genuine emotions and unforgettable landscapes.
