Discovering Sedico
Sedico, nestled in the beautiful province of Belluno, is an ideal destination for those who love nature, history, and outdoor activities. Much of its territory lies within the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, a protected area offering pristine landscapes, lush forests, and unique biodiversity. The majestic peak of Schiara, standing at 2565 meters, dominates the horizon, inviting hikers and mountain enthusiasts to challenge its trails.
Numerous hiking and cycling paths cross the territory of Sedico, including the scenic Zanardo Nature Trail at La Stanga, and routes to the Schiara Group, Pala Alta, and Monte Peron. These paths offer breathtaking views of the Belluno Valley and the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, suitable for both experienced walkers and families.
Sedico is not just about nature: its cultural heritage is rich with small treasures to discover. The town’s hamlets preserve elegant historic villas such as Villa Manzoni in Patt, Villa Rudio, and Villa Miari, and charming churches like San Nicolò in Bribano, dating back to 1502. The small church of San Giorgio on the homonymous mountain also offers a splendid panoramic view over the valley, Pala Alta, and the Monti del Sole.
A must-visit site is the archaeological site of the Castelliere di Noal, which holds traces of a Paleovenetian village from the Bronze and Iron Ages, while the ancient Candaten hospice, part of the thematic route "La Via degli Ospizi," is perfect for a relaxing break surrounded by nature, with picnic areas.
For lovers of Alpine history, the 7th Alpine Regiment Museum at Villa De Manzoni tells the traditions and deeds of this legendary military unit.
Finally, the Sedico Carnival, passionately organized by the Pro Loco every February, is an unmissable event involving the entire community and attracting visitors for a festive celebration of colors, music, and tradition.
