Discovering Roncegno
Nestled on the slopes of the Lagorai massif, Roncegno Terme is more than just a village in Valsugana: it is an oasis of serenity and vigor, a place where nature doesn't just surround you, but actually heals and tones. Here, historical richness blends with the legendary arsenical-ferruginous waters, known for their regenerating powers since antiquity and channeled into a magnificent wellness complex.
The pumping heart of Roncegno is the element of water. Its springs, unique in their mineral composition, have built Roncegno’s reputation as a renowned climatic and thermal resort. Today, the town centre stretches around what was once the core of the treatments, surrounded by an imposing secular park, a true botanical marvel, an ideal location for forest bathing and for finding inner balance among tree-lined avenues and the scent of rare essences.
Strolling through Roncegno means flipping through a history book. In the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the eye is captivated by an unexpected masterpiece, an altarpiece of sublime beauty attributed to the Venetian master Francesco Guardi. All around, the territory tells its alpine and rural identity:
- Along the Chestnut Road (Via del Castagno): The landscape is dominated by majestic secular chestnut trees, gentle giants that characterize the historic road climbing towards Ronchi Valsugana. An invitation to rediscover the flavors and rhythms of mountain life.
- Cultural Trails: The hamlet of Marter is home to the peculiar Mulino Angeli – House of the Scarecrows (Casa degli Spaventapasseri), a tribute to popular creativity and farming traditions. A little further on, the echo of history resonates among the ruins of the Tor Tonda, evidence of ancient fortifications guarding the valley.
Roncegno is the perfect base for exploring the natural wonders of the Valsugana and the Lagorai at any time of year.
- In Summer: From walks to reach the charming Lago delle Prese at altitude, to the most challenging routes on the peaks of the Lagorai, every hiker finds their challenge. For bike lovers, the proximity to the Valsugana Cycle Path along the Brenta River offers an unforgettable experience, as do the MTB tracks that climb among the farmhouses (masi).
- In Winter: When snow blankets the forests, Roncegno becomes the starting point for thrilling snowshoeing excursions in the alpine silence. Nearby ski areas, such as Panarotta and Passo Brocon, are easily accessible for those who love skiing and snowboarding, offering breathtaking views of the Dolomites.
Roncegno Terme is, ultimately, a destination for those seeking harmony between the pleasure of thermal wellness, the excitement of high-altitude discovery, and immersion in a richly charming alpine culture.
