Discovering Passo della Val di Fumo

Passo della Val di Fumo, located in western Trentino near the border with Lombardy, is one of the most authentic and untouched destinations in the Dolomites. Nestled within the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, this mountain pass is the natural extension of the Val Daone, stretching over 10 km through a pristine glacial landscape dominated by the majestic peaks of the Adamello Group, such as Carè Alto (3463 m) and Monte Fumo (3409 m).

Known as the “Little Canada of Trentino,” Passo della Val di Fumo is ideal for hiking, trekking, and slow tourism. The main trail, suitable for families, starts from the parking area near Lake Malga Bissina (1850 m) and leads to the Val di Fumo Mountain Hut (1997 m) in about two hours of gentle walking through alpine meadows, wooden bridges, waterfalls, and forests of larch and fir. Along the way, the Chiese River flows beside you in turquoise hues, fed by the Lobbia Glacier.

The Val di Fumo Hut is a starting point for alpine excursions, botanical walks, and outdoor activities such as climbing and canoeing. In summer, a shuttle service makes trail access easier. The area also preserves historical traces of World War I and features two hydroelectric reservoirs: Malga Boazzo and Malga Bissina.

How to get there: From Trento or Madonna di Campiglio, follow signs to Daone and continue to the Malga Bissina parking area.
