Discovering Lago di Toblino

Located at 245 meters above sea level in the municipality of Madruzzo, about 15 km from Trento, Lake Toblino is one of the most enchanting destinations in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. Nestled in the heart of the Valle dei Laghi (Valley of Lakes), this scenic lake is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, vineyards, and rolling hills. Its mild microclimate allows for the growth of olive trees, lemon plants, rosemary, and bay laurel - an unusual sight in the Alps.

Lake Toblino is part of a protected nature reserve, designated as a biotope for its ecological value. It provides a habitat for various bird species such as swans and ducks, as well as fish like trout. A panoramic walking path along the lake’s edge is ideal for relaxing strolls, birdwatching, and nature photography.

The lake’s crown jewel is Castel Toblino, a 12th-century fortress later transformed into a Renaissance summer residence by the Prince-Bishops of Trento. Perched on a small peninsula, the castle offers a fairy-tale view of the lake and now houses an exclusive restaurant, accessible only to guests, serving traditional Trentino cuisine.

Nearby villages such as Calavino, Sarche, and Padergnone are perfect for cultural excursions and wine tastings, especially of the renowned Vino Santo Trentino, a local dessert wine. Lake Toblino also served as a filming location for the Italian TV series La Dama Velata, highlighting its timeless charm.
