Discovering Volano

Located in the heart of Vallagarina, just north of Rovereto, Volano is a characteristic village of Trentino famous for the production of the famous Marzemino dei Ziresi, a DOC red wine that was even served at the table of Casa d'Austria.

The vineyards dominate the landscape of the valley and the first hills, where next to the Marzemino is also produced an excellent Chardonnay, base for the prestigious Trento DOC. The volcanic terroir and the temperate alpine climate, influenced by the winds of Lake Garda, give the local wines unique organoleptic characteristics.

From the cultural point of view, Volano has a considerable artistic heritage. The Church of San Rocco, symbol of the early Renaissance in Trentino, houses precious restored frescoes, including the remains of the Last Judgement. The town has lived two important artistic seasons: one at the end of the Venetian domination (about 1500) and one in the seventeenth century.

Cinema Teatro Concordia represents the heart of contemporary cultural life, while events such as "Memoriae" celebrate local peasant traditions with exhibitions of period objects and popular events.

For nature lovers, Volano offers excursions by mountain bike or on foot to Mount Finonchio. Do not miss the art trail that ideally connects the three municipalities of Calliano, Besenello and Volano: walking along it you reach the Hermitage of Santa Cecilia, located at the top of a "staircase" carved into the rock, with a spectacular view over the Valle dell'Adige, from Trento to Rovereto.
