Discovering Rovereto
Rovereto is located in the Vallagarina Valley, the southernmost part of the Adige Valley, surrounded by gentle hills covered with vineyards. It is the second largest and most important city in Trentino after Trento, and a perfect blend of history, art, and modernity. The historic center still shows traces of Venetian influence in its architecture, while its museums tell different stories: the War Museum and the Civic Museum preserve the past, while the Mart, one of the most important European museums of modern and contemporary art, looks to the future.
Don’t miss the Depero House Museum, showcasing the most significant works of the famous futurist artist, and the birthplace of Antonio Rosmini, which holds the philosopher’s precious library.
The city is lively with many cultural and artistic events, including the famous Oriente Occidente Festival, one of Europe’s major dance festivals, and the International W. A. Mozart Festival.
The Vallagarina is dotted with historic castles. The imposing medieval Castle of Rovereto dominates the city, while nearby the evocative Castel Corno rises on an inaccessible peak in the municipality of Isera, and to the north stands the massive Castel Beseno.
For nature and history lovers, a walk up to Colle di Miravalle offers an emotional experience: at sunset, the Maria Dolens Bell, made from the bronze of cannons, daily honors the sacrifice of fallen soldiers. Nearby, the biotope and the Dante Ruins in Lavini di Marco evoke Dante’s world, while the route to the Ossuary of Castel Dante leads along dinosaur footprints, blending history and nature.
