Discovering Lago della Casera

Set at 1920 meters above sea level on the northern slopes of Pizzo Meriggio, Lake della Casera is one of the most enchanting spots in the Livrio Valley, nestled within the municipality of Albosaggia, in Valtellina. This glacial lake is framed by a pristine Alpine landscape of larch forests, high-altitude pastures, and erratic boulders, making it an ideal hiking destination for those seeking silence, fresh mountain air, and breathtaking views.

The lake is easily accessible via well-marked trails starting from San Salvatore, a locality reachable by car from Albosaggia. Just a few minutes from the lake lies the Rifugio Baita della Casera, managed by the Albosaggia Alpine Group, offering a year-round bivouac and spaces for events and excursions.

From a cultural perspective, Lake della Casera is deeply connected to the traditions of Alpine pasture life and the history of local mountain communities. The area is dotted with historic huts and traditional shelters, reflecting the enduring bond between humans and the mountains. Nearby, the San Salvatore chapel—one of the oldest in Valtellina—holds legends and anthropological curiosities that enrich the charm of the location.

In summer, the lake is perfect for picnics, nature photography, birdwatching, and meditation, while in autumn it offers spectacular foliage and tranquil reflections.
