Discovering Forcella Laste
Forcella Laste lies among the ridges of the Belluno Prealps, in the municipality of Chies d’Alpago, becoming an ideal destination for hikers seeking authentic panoramas and untouched nature. Located near the peaks surrounding the Col Nudo‑Cavallo plateau, the pass offers spectacular views of the Col Nudo Group (2,472 m), the highest peak of the Venetian Prealps.
The route starts from Degnona or Casera Venal following a marked trail through forests, rock outcrops, and scree slopes. The final section from the pass heading south toward Roncadin and Casera Polsa presents a descent on unstable terrain full of character, to be tackled with caution. Slowly, the panorama opens onto the Alpago alpine landscape, with views of the surrounding mountains and the valleys below.
As you approach the summit, the alpine vegetation gives way to boulders and traces of high‑altitude pastures. The contrast between the green meadows and the light-colored rocks creates a striking vista, especially at sunset. The area is perfect for those seeking authenticity and wishing to deepen their knowledge of the mountain heritage of Alpago, known for its rural culture and the ancient Regole that have organized the territory since the Middle Ages.
The area is easily accessible from Chies d’Alpago, an ideal starting point for trekking, mountain biking, or relaxing walks. The village is home to the Alpago Natural History Museum with local artifacts, gems of its fauna and flora, and historic exhibits. At the foot of Monte Teverone and Col Nudo, nature lovers can alternate cultural visits with walks immersed in silence and alpine views.
Forcella Laste is ideal for moderately difficult hikes: an experience that combines wilderness atmospheres, geological traces, and insights into local craftsmanship. Along the route you can sample local specialties, such as the Alpago Lamb, a Slow Food presidium. Good physical preparation, technical clothing, and attention to weather conditions are recommended, especially given the possibility of steep scree or unstable terrain.
