Discovering Forcella di Pala Barzana

The Pala Barzana Saddle, located in the municipality of Andreis, is one of the most scenic access points to the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its untouched landscapes and geological significance. Positioned at approximately 845 meters above sea level, this alpine saddle connects the Val Cellina with the Val Colvera, offering a hiking experience immersed in wild nature and the cultural heritage of the Friulian mountains.

From here begins CAI Trail 967, which leads to the summit of Monte Raut (2027 m), one of the most iconic peaks of the Carnic Prealps. The route is demanding and recommended for experienced hikers, winding through beech forests, scree slopes, and rocky passages. Along the way, hikers encounter the ruins of Casera Pala Barzana, a former high-altitude pasture that reflects the region’s rural traditions. The trail also passes through areas of high ecological value, rich in alpine flora and marked by deep, contemplative silence.

The saddle is easily accessible by car from Bosplans, with a designated parking area and well-maintained trail signage. It is also a popular destination for cyclists, thanks to panoramic climbs from Maniago, Andreis, and Poffabro, with gradients exceeding 10%.

Crossed by the Frassati Trail of Friuli Venezia Giulia, dedicated to Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, the area invites both spiritual reflection and active exploration.
