Discovering Malles Venosta

Malles Venosta, the main town of the Upper Vinschgau Valley, is located at about 1,000 meters altitude, in a sunny position at the foot of the Landa di Malles. This historic village boasts an ancient center rich in medieval manor houses and Romanesque churches, including the Church of St. Benedict, dating back to the time of Charlemagne, and the Church of St. Vitus from the 11th/12th century. Thanks to Claudia de Medici, since 1642 the traditional St. George and St. Gall markets have been held, events that bring the heart of Malles alive with local colors and flavors.

The hamlets of Laudes, Clusio, Burgusio with Monte Maria — the highest Benedictine abbey in Europe — and Tarces, at the foot of the legendary Tarces Hill, offer authentic landscapes and culture. The rural areas of Mazia, Ulten-Alsago, Planol, Piavenna, Slingia, and Prämajur on Watles are also ideal destinations for those seeking nature and tranquility.

The territory of Malles Venosta is rich in panoramic hiking trails for all levels: from the Oberwaalweg, perfect for families and relaxing walks in the valley floor, to routes above 2,000 meters, suitable for challenging hikes, climbing, and paragliding from Watles, which in winter turns into a popular ski resort. Less than twenty minutes away are the slopes of the Ortler Skiarena, while the hamlet of Silingia is a reference point for cross-country skiing lovers, with well-equipped loops.

Malles Venosta is also the last reachable train station in the Vinschgau Valley with the characteristic little train, and it is one of the largest municipalities in South Tyrol, thanks to the green valleys of Mazia Valley, Planol Valley, and Slingia Valley. For moments of relaxation, there is the nearby nature park and a modern sports and wellness center with pools and saunas, perfect for rejuvenating after a day outdoors.
