Discovering Passo Tre Croci
Passo Tre Croci is a mountain pass in the Ampezzo Dolomites, located at 1,805 meters between Monte Cristallo and Sorapiss, connecting Cortina d’Ampezzo with Misurina and Auronzo di Cadore. It’s one of the most beloved scenic and hiking destinations in the Dolomites.
The name of the pass comes from three commemorative crosses placed in memory of a mother and her two children who died in 1789 during a winter crossing. Today, the site is a symbol of remembrance and spirituality, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.
From here, several popular trails begin, including the famous trail 215 leading to Lake Sorapis, known for its turquoise waters and the dramatic rock formation called the Finger of God. The hike, of moderate difficulty, winds through forests and equipped sections up to Rifugio Vandelli, at 1,926 meters.
The pass is also a starting point for routes toward Forcella Marcoira and the Cristallo group, offering opportunities for climbing and more demanding treks. In winter, the area is ideal for snowshoeing and ski touring.
Easily accessible from Cortina and Misurina, Passo Tre Croci is a must-see for those seeking nature, history, and adventure. Its views over the Ampezzo Dolomites and proximity to iconic sites make it perfect for an active or contemplative holiday.
