Discovering Federa Lake
Federa Lake is one of the most enchanting natural gems of the Belluno Dolomites, located at 2,038 meters above sea level in the territory of Cortina d’Ampezzo. Nestled in an alpine basin at the foot of Croda da Lago and Becco di Mezzodì, it offers postcard-perfect landscapes in every season.
This glacial lake, with no visible inflows or outflows, maintains its emerald-green waters thanks to underground springs. It can be reached via well-marked hiking trails from Passo Giau, Ru Curtu, and Cortina, ideal for trekking, mountain biking, and winter snowshoeing. The routes suit all levels and reward visitors with breathtaking views, especially in autumn when the larch foliage paints the scenery in warm hues.
On the lakeshore stands the Rifugio Croda da Lago G. Palmieri, open in summer and autumn, where guests can enjoy traditional Ampezzo cuisine and relax in a panoramic sauna. From here, trails lead to Malga Federa and other scenic destinations in the Ampezzo Dolomites.
