Discovering Bàrcis Lake
Lago di Barcis, located in the heart of the Valcellina, is nestled among the peaks of the Friulian Dolomites and stands out as one of the most enchanting destinations in Friuli Venezia Giulia. With its emerald-green waters and peaceful atmosphere, it’s perfect for a holiday filled with nature, sports, and tradition. This artificial lake, situated at 402 meters above sea level, is part of the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park and the Cellina Gorge Nature Reserve, where the stream has carved one of Italy’s most spectacular canyons.
A panoramic trail of about 6 km surrounds the lake, ideal for walking, hiking, and cycling. Among the most thrilling experiences are the Tibetan bridge over the Cellina Gorge, the visit to the Old Dam Cave, and the route along the Old Valcellina Road, now open to pedestrians and cyclists. The lake is equipped for water sports such as canoeing, windsurfing, powerboating, and sport fishing, all in a safe and scenic environment.
The village of Barcis, with its historic center and Palazzo Centi, hosts cultural events, exhibitions, and festivals celebrating Friulian traditions. Nearby, you can explore charming towns like Andreis, Poffabro, Claut, and Tramonti di Sotto, perfect for day trips and discovering the authentic soul of the Friulian mountains.
