Discovering Auronzo Lake

Auronzo Lake, also known as Santa Caterina Lake, is one of the most iconic destinations in the Belluno Dolomites, nestled in the Ansiei Valley within the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore. This artificial lake, created in 1932 by damming the Ansiei Stream, stretches for about 2 km and offers breathtaking scenery and year-round activities.


Surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Cadini di Misurina, and Croda dei Toni, the lake reflects postcard-perfect views. The pedestrian and cycling path that runs along its shores is ideal for walks and bike rides immersed in nature. Its waters are perfect for canoeing, pedal boating, and rowing, while the equipped beaches invite visitors to relax or enjoy sport fishing.


In winter, Auronzo becomes a great base for skiing and snowshoeing, thanks to its proximity to the Monte Agudo ski area. The lake also serves as a starting point for excursions to Misurina, the Auronzo Hut, and the Tre Cime, all must-see landmarks of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.


The presence of the Chapel of Santa Caterina, dating back to the 16th century, adds historical and spiritual charm to the landscape. Easily accessible and well-equipped, Auronzo Lake is a perfect destination for families, sports enthusiasts, and mountain lovers.
