Discovering Anterselva Lake

The Lago di Anterselva is the third largest natural lake in South Tyrol, located at 1,642 m at the end of the Valle di Anterselva within the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park. Its turquoise-green waters, the amphitheater of forests and the surrounding peaks make it an iconic destination of the Val Pusteria, perfect in every season for photography, relaxation and outdoor activities.

A 2.7 km educational trail with panels on flora, fauna and geology allows visitors to walk around the entire lake. Access is convenient from the parking areas near the Tirolerhütte and the Anterselva Biathlon Centre, directly connected to the lakeside paths. Covering about 44 hectares and reaching a depth of 38 m, the lake is of probable landslide origin.

In summer, the lake is the starting point for hikes to mountain huts and alpine pastures, while in winter the area becomes the capital of biathlon: the Anterselva Biathlon Centre hosts World Cup events and will be one of the venues of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

On its shores rise the Croda Rossa (2,817 m) and the Piccolo Orecchio (2,938 m), framing spectacular views and trails suitable for both families and experienced hikers. Its proximity to Brunico and the Val Pusteria ensures easy access, while the protected setting of the park guarantees an authentic experience in one of South Tyrol’s most evocative high‑altitude landscapes.
